Barack Obama’s team has done it again. They have taken the web 2.0 style that has surrounded the new president and pushed it onto the White House’s website. The old website was not bad, but it is nice to see a fresh face on the website. I just hope this doesn’t turn into a every new president gets a new website deal. Not that it would be bad, but is it really necessary?
In any case I am digging the new look and feel of the site. All the small accents for images and horizontal breaks are well done. It remains conservative yet allows for some play in the presentation of content. It is nice to see design taken to a, pardon the pun, presidential level. Any thoughts? I will write a more detailed comment after I have had more time to get through the website.

one problem, it’s in .NET.
one solution, obama is asking about open source.
also, i just noticed they’re using jQuery, but that’s not a surprise because jQuery is bundled with VisualStudio.

I think releasing a new presidential site once every 4 or 8 years is perfect. This practice will help ensure our country’s web presence is morally, technically, and aesthetically relevant to our country at the time.
By the way. I like the “You are here” breadcrumb trail in the footer with a sitemap. I just wish it also put a little star next to the list item you are at.
it’s also amazing that there will be a weekly address. if they could just get the RSS (or WiFi if you’re at Cosi) working, we would have the first presidential vodcast!
@bryan… that sitemap looks suspiciously like a mobile website! unfortunately there is no mobile whitehouse.gov that i am aware of. it wouldn’t take much to get one started.
