PhIxDA needs and update, and I just stumbled upon an article entitled JavaScript and Screen Readers detailing the quirks and compatibilty of several JavaScript events with the Jaws and Window Eyes screen readers. It really was an enlightening read and the author makes this point: We must begin to address the concerns of people who are trying to make their dynamic web applications accessible, or we will have no room to complain when the next batch of web applications prove to be unusable by the disabled. iTunes U impressions | (3)
I had never heard of iTunes U until this morning when my boss linked our group to Columbia University's New Media in Education '08 Conference. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it; in fact I'm rather torn! iTunes already has a great content delivery system that millions of people use every day. The interface is familiar and certainly more comfortable than any LMS I've ever used (Moodle, BlackBoard, etc). Does it make sense to use an already proven system for entertainment delivery for education? Is it wise to keep the two so close together?

Arranging Hues brain monkey | (1)
xrite.com has a test that asks users arrange color tiles from one hue to another. The lower the score the better; Zero being perfect. I managed to score an 11 in approximately 6 minutes. I'm not sure what this means, but it was a fun exercise!

Google Audio Indexing Bad Idea, Good Idea | (0)
They did it again. Google has an experimental search feature on the labs section of the google site. Audio indexing currently searches through video and finds matches of words and phrases and provides shortcuts to jump straight to the result. Is this the next stenographer killer? Will closed-caption/subtitle programmers have to find a new job? Will the RIAA have a hissy fit when lyrics are ultimately indexed by someone they can't afford to sue? Time will tell!

Yesterday Google introduced their player in the browser wars; Google Chrome. There was a lot of talk about it since it's accidental early announcement on Labor Day. Like most things Google, there has already been much hype and criticism. Some say it's too cartoony while others claim it's simplicity takes the cake! I was browsing the NASA website looking for panoramas of the Mars mission when i noticed that they had animated elements. Naturally, I coupled my curiosity with Firebug and the WebDev toolbar and discovered that they're using the Scriptaculous JavaScript framework. I asked Google what the top 100 companies to work for are and went to each website to see what they're using for their JavaScript/UI needs.
