I was browsing the NASA website looking for panoramas of the Mars mission when i noticed that they had animated elements. Naturally, I coupled my curiosity with Firebug and the WebDev toolbar and discovered that they're using the Scriptaculous JavaScript framework. I asked Google what the top 100 companies to work for are and went to each website to see what they're using for their JavaScript/UI needs. Web Form Design Design, best practices, impressions, review | (1)
I was looking into best form practices and I stumbled upon this PDF slide show which has a lot of information and examples of existing web-forms. It goes on to describe styling issues from content grouping to placement of labels and excessive visual noise. Why one thing might be better than another given the circumstances and application of the form. Also, it’s mostly pictures of forms with some bulleted slides here and there. YUI Documentation Printable Stylesheet brain monkey, impressions, rant | (0)
I justify this entry with the argument that not having a print-friendly option can possibly hurt a user's experience. The YUI is an increasingly popular JavaScript framework these days. I've been asked to implement it into my work and traversing the documentation, for me, has been just a tad bit annoying. It's easy to be overwhelmed with links upon first visit. I just want to see a list of methods/properties and how to use them. I wish one click would get me there, but for now, I'll be grateful that documentation exists. In preparation for the latest PHIxDA meeting, I stumbled across an article on the Penn State blog about Open Source Software and the User Experience in Higher Education. I am less a designer than I am a programmer and my mindset is typically within the realm of code and syntax rather than how something looks and its usability. mass emails and how to send them suggestion | (2)
today, while preparing for the meeting tonight, i realized that simply responding to the PHIXDA mass email that lee recently sent out would not work. outlook told me that PHIXDA_Memebers Group was an invalid recipient! And i was like, yes it is... i want to send them an email. they are totally valid! and it was like, no it's not. gfys! and it went on literally for minutes. could we perhaps set up a google group or a single point forwarding email address to send stuff to?

until we use a blog that supports multiple pages, we should take advantage of the tagging system. i've started a subsection called "Meeting Notes" which is pretty obvious, but there might be more categories that need to be grouped together. exercises, homework, events, links, etc. i propose we either move to a new blog that supports what we want, or we determine a system of tagging to help organize what i imagine will be an absurd amount of information (which should probably be done anyway).
