Looks like the dictionary.com group has given the website an updated UI. I’m glad since I have been using this web service as long as I can remember. I am assuming this is the start of a new UI for the ask.com group as well since they own dictionary.com.
Might be an interesting one to follow. The new UI is very web 2.0 in its style which is good. My only complaint is the new results layout. i had become so used to the last layout that this one gets to me a little. But I’m sure they did their homework and there are design and usability reasons behind why they chose to layout it out so.

it looks even better with adblock+
seriously, what does the web look like anymore? it’s a lot different without all of the advertisements!
in fact, just look at the header graphic you made for this post. a good portion of the total area is littered with ads.
I agree. I guess there is a good side to suffering from the illness known as banner blindness.
With the ads set aside, and as much as I know some people dislike the trendy web 2.0 styling era, it isn’t going away. I feel it is a positive step that they updated such a website’s layout and design. I don’t think people are going to rave about it. I do feel that it is one of those small, highly used places on the web so it is nice to see it stay with the times so to speak, massive over blown ads and all.
Their new web 2.0 appearance is a thin veneer masking a slew of excess tags. Some are deprecated some they made up and others they misused. The YSlow Firefox extension from Yahoo gave the site a F(32), not to mention the site is completely useless to users requiring screen readers.
The decision to make superficial updates to the UI and neglect their troubling usability and performance deficiencies tells me they are more interested in joining the web 2.0 band wagon then in furthering the web experience.
By the way, how does dictionary.com display on an iPhone, or any other mobile device?
